Well as you've read in earlier posts, the flu hit the Anthony home this week. Unfortunately it presented as a sinus infection but it seems that everyone in my office had the same symptoms. As a line from Toy Story....Someone's poisoned the water hole....I of course being the paranoid germ freak immediately lysoled the entire house, whipped our the Swiffer Wet Jet with Anti-bacterial liquid and went nuts through our house...Not minding if I coughed or sneezed...I was going to clean it up one way or another...Ha Ha. However, I was extremely worried that the birds could catch something from Bill or I. We're very cautious about their envioronment and I could just see one of our precious feathered kids getting sick. I mentioned the "v" word the other night and thankfully they can't corrolate "V" with "VET"....How fun to take your bird in for their first visit and say, oh By the Way, I gave them the flu. Thankfully Bill caught me before I started digging in my closet for my haz-mat suit <phew...I was then going to have to worry about coordinating my swiffer duster with my yellow suit....Crisis interupted!>
It's funny to share my stories, but the bitter sweet ending is that why I was off work two days, I wasn't able to spend too much time with the birds as I didn't feel good. When I did get home on Wednesday I was as excitable as a rock, Thursday was a little better until I got home from a stressful day at the office. I even sat in the bird/man chair and let Big Girl sit on my shoulder....Not my usual position. She likes to snuggle with Bill but when he's not home, she mostly wins me over within the hour of arrival to the Nest. It was so sweet because I was crying my eyes out on the phone to Bill about not feeling well and what a horrible day it was at work....Little did I know that God had that bird sitting on my shoulder for a reason. She actually was "grooming" my hair and massaging my head with her beak. I can't tell you how great it felt...Then it hit me....I'm truly the bird lady!!!! I was so thankful for her soothing care for me as if she was saying it's okay, I'm here to take care of you...Just don't move or I'll poop on you....ha ha....The keets and Rockie were also extra sympathetic last night too. The keets had me laughing in no time as the are a constant ball of energy and Rockie looks at me with those sympathetic caring eyes that just let you know that it's all going to be okay. When Bill got home he got Rockie out of his cage, I'm still too nervous to do it because I baby him....But when Bill put him on my shoulder I said give me a kiss and he gave me a kiss on the cheek and whimpered in my ear. It wasn't just a simple "Hi Mom" gesture. When people say animals don't understand human emotions, I'm afraid they are painfully wrong.
Bill and I are so honored that we have 6 birdies and a fish that we can say, Yes we're their humans!! There not just our pets, they chose us too!!!
Good Night from desk of a proud mother to 6 feathered sweethearts and one silly beta fish that lives in her aquarium on my kitchen table. I know fish don't usually find their way onto a table...but is my house normal.....???
**update on the breeder papers....Apparently they don't exist....This mama isn't happy. I'll be on the next investigative round next week......*****
